Lucky Lab Show
Mar. 24th, 2009 | 11:41 am
location: Living room
mood:
drained
This was my first "tavern" show as it were, the first time I'd heard Alec sing more in the way of drinking or tavern songs and not simply fae or Celtic pieces. There was a blend of traditional tunes, fun drinking songs (I don't drink, but they were still fun), quick banter, and songs for the kids in the audience...the ones under the age of 10 rather than the ones that are young at heart. I was pleased that the venue allowed children; for some reason I got it in my head that children wouldn't be allowed, but they were present, well received, and well behaved.
As an added bonus, Kore made an announcement after "Fang In Vein" that had Alec blushing the same shade as the walls. It was precious!
There will be another show in April and I hope to be there. Check out the performance page, mark your calendars, and drop by for some really good pizza and even better music.

Actually, there was a show at the Lucky Lab...
Dec. 15th, 2008 | 11:22 pm
location: Back home
mood:
silly
music: Wintertide
T’was December 15th
T’was December 15th
And to Multnomah we went
For Alec’s Yule concert
A most joyous event.
We leapt in the van,
The chains all a clatter.
There was ice on the roads,
But it didn’t matter.
At the pub we arrived
All the way across town,
When Doug went to the door
Where he said with a frown:
“I’m sorry, dear Ladies,
The pub, it is closed.”
And from our winsome quartet
Came suffering and woe.
“What about Alec?”
We said through our tears.
“We wantd to see him.”
“He has to be here.”
“Now, Ladies, don’t worry,”
Doug said, thinking quick,
As he pulled out his cell phone
And dialed up St. Nick.
“Hey, Santa, it’s Doug.
We’ve a problem, I fear.
So hitch up your sleigh
To your fastest reindeer.”
“Alec’s adrift,
He’s cancelled his show.
He’s stuck in the Bay Area
Because of the snow.”
“Not a problem,” said Santa
As he jumped in his sleigh,
And with a brisk “Ho-Ho-Ho”
He was up, up and away.
The lights on the Bay
Shone with fine Christmas cheer
While Alec moped at the bar
Over his third pint of beer.
When out of the sky
Santa came with a whoop.
He dropped beside Alec and said,
“Here’s the scoop.”
“I’ve come to collect you,
It’s an emergency flight.”
“But, Santa,” said Alec,
“I haven’t finished my pint.”
“Enough of this nonsense.
You’ve fans freezing to death.
And the wages of that pint
Will be worse than Cambreadth.”
So saying, St. Nick
Heaved Alec into the sleigh
And together they headed
Up Multnomah way.
When they set down at the pub
Alec said, “Only four?”
“Five,” we corrected,
“Now open the door.”
“We’re cold and we’re hungry
And in need of good cheer.
Let’s throw on some pizzas
And pour a few beers.”
So, while the other fans sulked
In the ice and the snow,
Alec gave us his best.
It was a helluva show.
Said Santa waving good-bye
As he jumped in his ride,
“Joyous Yule to you all,
And a blessed Wintertide.”
